God is good
When when we're in hospital
God is good
When we go home
God is good
When things get better
God is good
When things get worse
God is good
When we are poor
God is good
When we are rich.
God is good
When things go well
God is good
When things are hard
God is good
When we are pregnant
God is good
When we miscarry
God is good
When we are happy
God is good
When we are sad
God is good
When He says, "Yes"
God is good
When He says, "No!"
This week Lydia spent a night in hospital. When we told people she could come home, I was reminded again how we respond when things go well. What do we say? God is good. I'm sure I've said it many times myself and it is meant in a totally positive way. It's meant to give the credit to God. Don't get me wrong. But Lydia's first rough year has made me question that response! It makes me think...Is God not good if we have to stay in hospital? Is God not good if our children die? Is God's goodness dependent on whether he keeps us happy or not?
A while ago, I saw my son had written a story about me in his school writing book. He said that mummy had taken him to the dairy and let him choose some lollies. I was the best mummy in the world!
But unfortunately, he has trouble believing that when I cross his path! Am I still good when I have to discipline him or when I say "No"??
I love this verse in Nahum 1:7
The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.
God is good, not because he keeps us from all trouble. But He is our safe place when we are going through trials. He also promises that if we love Him, everything is working together for our good.
Psalms 119:71 says, "It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes."
Trials are good for us, if we learn from them and let them bring us closer to God.
And God's goodness doesn't really have anything to do with being sick or healthy. He gives/allows what is good for us-- not necessarily what we would choose.
I am very thankful to God that we are home from the hospital. But He is good all the time. It is a simple fact. Nothing ever changes that!
