Loving God's Word and the Story of Mary Jones

Today we acted out the story of Mary Jones and her Bible. It was Hannah's idea and she planned it all out. I added in an application at the end and used the verse "Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold." Psalm 119:127. Mary loved God's word far more than money.

A few hours later this verse came to my mind when I was praying about something. And I was challenged. Mary had to sacrifice a lot because of her love for God's Word. I already have my own Bible, but there is a sacrifice that comes when you love it. And that sacrifice can be hard. The sacrifice of taking time to read and study it. The sacrifice of obeying it. The sacrifice of giving our time, money, effort and energy to teach it, share it, and make it possible for others to hear about it.

Are we willing to make sacrifices because of our love for God's Word? Do we love God's Word more than everything we have?

 "Four Eyes" Story

Another Read With Me story. Joseph wanted one he could help act out! So this one is about taking care of our eyes, not making fun of those who need to wear glasses and being thankful for our eyesight.

In this video I share two of my "Go to" verses, a few simple living tips to keep from overwhelm, two parenting tips, a resource for children, a helpful movie, a new playlist, and a recipe.

Lemon Loaf 

(Double if you want 2 Loaves)
100g melted butter
2 eggs
2tblsp grated lemon rind

2tblsp lemon juice
13/4 cups white flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup sugar
11/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup milk
 

Syrup for on top
1/4 cup lemon juice and 1/4 cup white sugar

Grease or line loaf tin. Preheat oven to 180C. Beat eggs and butter. Add lemon rind, lemon juice and sugar and beat until creamy. Sift in the flour, baking powder and salt and mix in with milk until combined. Pour into loaf tin and bake 45-55 minutes or until cooked. Mix together syrup ingredients. When loaf is cooked, take straight from the oven and while still hot pour the syrup over. Cool in the tin.

A character building story a little bit different this time. It is not just audio. I am reading it to my children with some of it acted out!

An Orphan's Prayer

 

A character building story for children. It's about being confident in prayer. I hope it doesn't give the impression that God will give us whatever we want. But God does promise to hear our prayers (especially the things we need) and answer in what way He sees best.

Bread from Heaven

After months of sickness and unemployment Father was feeling very discouraged.

“I don't see any way through,” he said one day, “unless God helps us.”

“I hope He will---soon,' said Mother earnestly, knowing how very little food there was left.

“I never was in such a fix before,” Father went on. No money in the house, and through no fault of our own either. I wonder what is going to happen?”

“I can't tell,' said Mother. “It's the children I'm worried about. They'll all be in for supper in a minute or two, and there isn't a bite of bread for them.”

Grumbling Tommy

This is a story about a boy called Tommy. Now his daddy had died, and his mum had to work real hard to get enough money for them to have food to eat and clothes to wear and everything else. She did her best and worked very hard, and never grumbled or complained, but they were poor, and she found it very hard. Tommy also had a sister called Lucy.

Now one night, it was really cold. It had been snowing nearly all day, and now it was almost a blizzard. Inside their house it was nice and cozy. Tommy was reading a book by the fire, and his mum was working at the table. Tommy listened to the wind and snow outside and began thinking about how cold it must be outside.

The next minute he said, 'Mum, when are you going to buy me a new coat? You promised me you would buy one this winter, remember?
