Yesterday our new kitchen arrived! For the last few months my husband has been working on renovating our kitchen. He had to do a lot of work before getting the new kitchen. So, it was very exciting when the delivery truck arrived. Yet I had to laugh as I looked at my new kitchen, because it doesn't look at all like a kitchen. It is just a big pile of boxes! It IS a new kitchen, it just doesn't look like it at this stage. A lot of time and work still needs to go into it before it looks like a new kitchen.
Isn't that a bit like some answers to prayer? There are times that answers to prayer are instant. Just like when you go to town and buy something simple and bring it home. Other times, like the kitchen, it doesn't look like what we asked for.
Maybe we ask for patience. We expect God to just make us patient instantly. Instead God sends frustrating circumstances through which we learn patience! In the beginning, it doesn't look like what we asked for. But the end result is patience.
Maybe we pray for God to use us. But we don't realize that we have lessons to learn that will make us usable.
Maybe we pray for God to bless us. Yet we are unaware that trials are blessings in disguise.
Maybe we pray that God will increase our faith. The next thing we know our faith is being greatly tested and it seems that we have no faith at all. And yet that is how our faith gets increased.
